hunting orange lake Fl.

Any one have any luck here I'm having trouble getting up on them to harpoon them. Tried snatch hooks that just fills up with grass. How long does it take before a gator takes the bait you put out?

The hook is best used in open water. Look for where they are moving off of the weed line.

The fastest time is I have had is about ten minutes. We put out the bait where we saw a good gator and backed off into the weeds. We did not get everything straightend up in the boat before he was pulling on the line. It really depends a lot on how active the gators are where you put the bait. Wind matters. They will follow the smell of the bait to find it. Try to put the bait upwind of where you have been seeing a gator that you would like to target. The bait must not be totally underwater. There are times when they do not seem to be very active and not roaming around much. Under those conditions it to may not work unless you put it right where they like to hang out. Look for a place where you see one on a regular basis.

All items are in stock and usually ship within 24hours of receiving payment. We ship US postal service priority which takes 2-3 days from shipping date.

I know its a old post but I hunt 2 week orange lake took my first ever gator's, and on the first night .
I to has trouble getting close with the air boat,
Not ever hunting gator's I did think about a trolling motor, LOL
They would just spoke off as we got close or go under.
I missed the first 2 gator's , I was very exited and just held the bow to long . the third gator i just kept telling my self to drawl back, aim ,and release ,witch led to a neck shot on my first gator witch was only 6 1/2 feet but i am very happy with it . the fight wasn't much because I think I may have hit the spin a little.
2 gator was almost 8 feet and boy what fun it is to fight a tail shot gator to the boat

Big George, Good job on the gators! Just gotta keep working at it, trying different things until you find something that works. Never hunted Orange Lake but heard it could be tuff to hunt. There's a lake we hunted that had a lot of airboat traffic, gator were real skittish so we ended up doing best with bait. But each area is a little different with different obsticles and gators that act a little different. Scouting will help you figure out what might work best.

I checked Orange Lake, it is listed in the current listing, there may be some permits available in next drawings.

Thanks for posting the photo and story.

Anyone out there know where boat ramps are for Orange Lake? And which would be best to use?
