This is my first time hunting gator. I will not have a chance to scout the lake prior to the hunt. Is there things to look for...."favorable conditions" that may put me on a good area of water? Thanks...

They can be just about anywhere. Good places to start is where there are coves or creeks that enter the lake. I have taken many a gator not far from the boat ramp. People go fishing and clean the fish at the dock. Gators are looking for a easy meal. Depending on where you are hunting you will be suprised how many eyes you see when you are riding around. Gators seem to have active periods also. Dawn and dusk are good time. There are lakes that we stay out on all night long. We will shine the light and see no gators. Thirty minutes later shine the same area and see eyes all over the place. What State are you in? If you are in Florida which location were you drawn for?
