So this year i was finally able to draw a gator tag in my home state of SC. Since this will be my first ever gator hunt, i want to make sure that i have all the bases covered. I was drawn for the southern coastal region. So far my equipment list is as follows: a recurve with 2 muzzy gator getter arrows, a harpoon with two darts, and a heavy duty spinning rod outfit with 12/0 weighted treble hooks. I plan on using the fishing rod to get the initial hookup, followed by the arrows and harpoons. is there any advice anyone could offer? or maybe some info on the area i plan to hunt? i plan on spending majority of the season hunting the Savannah River along with Colleton county. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
David

David, I would add a 14/0 weighted hook with rope, if you get a big one it can be extremely hard to impossible to pull him up off the bottom with just a rod. Plus it gives you another method of pulling him up off the bottom when you get an arrow or harpoon in him. We always get two lines on one before exerting a lot of pressure on it to pull it up for the kill shot. Otherwise sounds like you have all the bases covered. We have not hunted the area hopefully one of our other forum members can offer some information about the area.
