Do you use a snare

Postby admin » Tue Aug 04, 2009 7:14 pm

When we first started out we were using a snare. It would take a fair amount of work to get the snare around the head of the gator. Then when we would be trying to bang it we would be trying to avoid the snare that we just worked so hard to get on. As long as we have it harpooned once in the neck area we can pull him up and have control to position him for the bangstick. We also had a problem if thin cable was used the gator will twist them up when you tighten them up making future use even harder.

Yeah, It's difficult to get a snare around pissed gators head, if we have a good dart or two in the gator we will go ahead and bangstik it. If the gator is 10ft. or better we always put at least two darts in it. And another thing, those thin cable snares get kinked up pretty bad when the gator roles, makes it impossible to use a second time. So we end up using the snare just to secure the gator to the boat or to help drag it in after we bangstik it.

My brother and I dont use a snare per say but after harpooning and the obvious fight we use a pole with rope noose held by duct tape and get it around the head. Once hes good and tired we gaf the lower jaw, pull him against the boat with top of his head against it and tape the mouth shut. then drag him around back of the boat, over the gunnel and push the head down and use a knife to sever the artery and spine. Might actually get a bang stik this year though.

The link to TNT Gators on our links page is a video of a gator being live caught. They use a snare to keep the mouth closed when they bring it up to tape it. We were allways using it around the neck to try to control them to bang them.
