Purchasing Gator Gear

Postby Hammhocks » Wed Jun 13, 2012 3:43 pm

Just wanted to comment on my experience ordering gear from G&B Gator Gear and alligator-hunting-equipment.com. I have completed several orders, in the past, and couldn't be happier. My orders were shipped fast and the quality was/is great. The prices are good. The communication is good. I'm certain I'll be ordering from them again.

Thank you. We take great pride in our equipment as well as our service. We are working on getting some new products out this year. Trying to build up some inventory before we put them on the web site.

Hear, hear. I placed an order for hooks and a snare through these folks and very happy with the service and quick shipment. I believe one of my fellow gator hunters just ordered a driver and darts from G&B based on my recommendation. Can't wait until September to add the snare and harpoon to the mix.

Season 1 (2010) - 2 seven footers
Season 2 (2011) - 2 nine footers
Season 3 (2012) - Nothing less than 10 feet! 8-)

Sounds good on paper.

Crimson Raptor is a quick learner. Many times new people will have a hard time getting their tags filled unless they are getting help (our case many many seasons ago). With all of the tags being sold during the first two rounds there must be a lot of first time people out there. We may be looking to start a listing of guides that other people have used. Using a guide is a quick way to get a fast start on the learning curve. It used to be that the season was very short but we now have a much bigger window to give it a go on our own. If you find yourself running out of time you may want to see about getting someone to take you out. There are many kinds of deals you can make with various guides. Some will charge based upon the time they spend or the size of the gators you get. You may even get someone to take you out and fill the tags if you let them have the gators. That can cost you noting and get you valuable training. You may even be able to find a hunter that has filled their tags and is just itching to get back out.

Thanks for the compliment, George. We did get get some very helpful hints from a friend who has hunted in the past. We've had many, many more hookups than harvests, no doubt, but learning every time out. Although we picked up two 9' this past season, we had 4 tags and only filled 2, so we're not perfect by any means.

However, we're hoping that the new equipment from you for the driver/darts and snares should prevent us from losing some of the larger ones at the bank this year. We also use a secret (and legal) tactic to get the shyer gators close enough for snatch casts later in the season. :D

I would recommend that those that go out for the first time without a guide or experienced mentor will take advantage of the FWC Orientation Class, read the Orientation manual, and check out some of the Florida-specific guide videos on Youtube which show some tried and true methods.

I think that I saw you on Youtube, George, harvesting a nice gator with some other folks. Great video.

Although I'm no guide, I do enjoy the hunt and after my two tags are filled, I will be letting folks know I'd be happy to go out in the later part of the season as a helper if anyone would like a 3rd year gator hunter as an extra body who can bring his own stuff.

Thanks again, George.
