Another new hunter questions

Postby PRB » Tue Jul 26, 2011 8:40 pm

I also live in Alabama and drew a tag for Eufaula. I'm trying to get everything bought and prepared. With that being said, I have a few questions? Do you guys recommend the toggle darts or Muzzy darts for harpoons? Also, our primary hunting method will be rod/reel then harpon. How many and what size hook should I purchase. We'll probably use two rods and due to the fact that I can't purchase these hooks locally, I'd like to have plenty. Are they prone to breakage with the braided line or is that uncommon. Thanks for any help!

P.S. When I try to order and click "add to cart" the site won't let me back out and add additional items. I have several things to order and would like to put it all on one order if possible.

I prefer the toggle darts, we have used the same pair through out the season taking many gators. We have driven them through scutes on +11 ft. gators and when it gets below the skin bone or scute and turn its almost impossible to pull out. We haven't lost a gator yet using them. I haven't used the Muzzy's but they have a hardened tip that some say penetrates easier and is use by a lot of people too. But it takes a good hard shot with any dart to penetrate deep enough to hold.

As for hooks it is hard to predict how many you will loose, we usually carry 6 extra 12/0s besides one each on our two rods and a couple of 10/0s. A lot of it depends on the cover and snags that exist in the water your hunting. Keep an eye on your line and any sign of damage cut out the damaged line retie your hook. We use 12/0's almost exclusively only using 10/0's as back ups.

When you are on the cart you should be able to use the "Continue Shopping" button on the bottom left of the cart page. You might have to scroll down to see it. Or if you just close (X out) of the cart page and go back to the products page on our site you can add another item to the cart and any items previously added will still be there. If you continue to have problems email us a list of the products you want and we can email you an invoice from PayPal for the items.
