DIY Headlight...

Postby jpatz18 » Sun Aug 09, 2009 11:52 am

Been looking for a way to make my own 50 watt head light, (baseball cap style) and a dimmer. Do you have any ideals for these?

I ended up buying a 100watt one and I have been trying to figure out away of making a dimmer for it. Let me know if you figure out something that works and I will let you know if I figure out something too.

I used the liner from a cheap hard hat. The type with a knob in the back for adjustment. At wall mart i found a TWO pack of fog light style lights($15.98). They have a pivot style bracket with holes that zip tie right to the front under the sweat band. I used an in line toggle switch like on a lamp(about a $1.50). If you really want a dimmer switch Autozone or the like should carry an ADJUSTABLE REOSTAT switch. like the one to dim your dash lights. It's already 12v. Or you could try one from the lighting section at Home Depot that dims fans/lights. Either one may be a little bulky but worth looking into. This is my first tag. Is the dimmer that important.

Thanks for the info on the light setup...
We have fewer gators spook when approaching them if we don't put full brightness on them. You can do that either with a dimmer or point your light high above the horizon and bring it down just low enough to cause their eyes to shine. Once we locate one we will begin approaching them with no light and to recheck their location we will use a dim light or use the light pointed high and once we get within harpoon range or casting range we will use brighter light on them.
