Hunting methods are dictated by the types of areas you have to hunt and the mode of transportation you use. In Alabama you can not use bait. The other thing is you are to have a noose or snare around the neck or leg before you kill him. In Alabama you can use a shotgun to kill the gator but you can not use shot larger than 4 shot. You can use a bangstick if it is 38 or larger. If you are going to clean the gator to eat I personally would use the bangstick over that of the shotgun. Those little pellets get in the jaw meat and can be tough to get them all out. Down in Florida, I can expect to use my equipment year after year and the bangstick is well used. You can use rods and snatch hooks, bows with fishing arrows, or a harpoon to get the first line on the gator. Then I would harpoon him with a dart that detaches and is on a rope and boey. Preferences on what equipment to use is a lot about what you allready have to work with. If you look at our links page you will see many sites that offer equipment. We try to offer our stuff at very reasonable prices. If you have questions about different types of equipment we will be more than happy to help you out.
